John P. Mackenna – President

With over 35 years of experience in industrial control and automation programming, John brings an innovative, yet highly practical approach to engineering, maintenance and project management. Before co-founding CIR Industrial Automation, Inc., John developed the first application of programmable logic controllers while at the Niagara Falls Facility of Union Carbide. He also represented the Carbon Products division on Union Carbide's Corporate Automation Committee defining and planning automation strategies.

As president of CIR, Mr. Mackenna maintains a very hands-on approach. In addition to his executive duties he maintains a high level of technical expertise by continuing to take day-to-day responsibility for several of the company’s engineering engagements. Some of the most noteworthy include the "Random Load" Electro-Plating line, the "Flying Cut-Off" Saw, and the Heinz Barbecue/Cocktail Sauce batching plant. John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee.

Mr. Alan J. Dickinson, Associate Controls Engineer

Alan joined CIR from Kaufman’s Bakery where his increasing responsibilities ranged from process control and vision systems to packaging and power distribution. 

At CIR, he designs and implements manufacturing and process design, PLC-based (programmable logic controller) control system engineering and programming. Alan has a degree in Electrical Technology from Erie Community College and an Electrical Engineering certification from DeVry Technical Institute. 

He is currently pursuing an Electrical Engineering degree from State University of New York at Buffalo.
